SUMMARY:Beekeeping Course
DESCRIPTION:COURSE/WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION\nA healthy bee population is essential to human survival\, as we rely on them to pollinate our crops and keep the cycle of life going. \nWHO IS THIS WORKSHOP SUITABLE FOR?\nThe course is ideal for beginners and improvers considering beekeeping\, as well as those who would just like to learn about our most important pollinators. \nABOUT THE COURSE:\nAt Westbury Arts Centre Beginners and Improvers Beekeeping Course you will be introduced to the essentials of beekeeping by our experienced Beekeeper Mike Bensley. \nThe aim is to offer you an introduction to beekeeping by covering the following themes: apiary hygiene; use of hive tools; manipulation of bees\, catching and hiving a swarm; swarm control; making up a nucleus hive; uniting bees; how to take a sample of bees; making up frames and hive parts; extraction and jarring honey; advice on setting up an apiary and all other essentials for beekeeping. \nThe course is 23 weeks long and starts with six evening sessions held indoors\, and the remaining sessions held outdoors. \nIndoor sessions include presentations and demonstrations\,\nand outdoor sessions consist of a hands on experience of handling bees. Please note that outdoor sessions are weather and nature dependent. \nEQUIPMENT REQUIRED:\nFor outdoor sessions you will need:\n– Wellington boots\n– Marigold/ rubber gloves\n– Gaffer Tape\n– A Beekeeping Suit (will be provided for the duration of the course only)\, however participants are encouraged to purchase their own\, if they wish. More information can be obtained from the course tutor. \nABOUT THE TUTOR:\nMike Bensley has been keeping bees at Westbury for over 20 years\, and for the last few years he has been running intensive Beekeeping Courses at Westbury Arts Centre. \nThese practical courses have provided an in-depth look at bees and how to keep them. Many of Mikes students have gone on to set up there own apiaries and regularly come back to help out. \nMike is passionate about bees and is only to pleased to be able to pass on his knowledge to the next generation of beekeepers. \nLOCATION:\nThe indoor sessions of the course could take place in either the Drawing Room\, Legge Room or the Barn. All workshops take place in rooms situated on the ground floor. Accessible parking spaces are available to anyone who requires them. \n

If at any time\, whist you are at the event\, you feel that the music level is too loud\, please tell a member of our team (there is always somebody on the door) \nLighting will be dimmed in areas and lasers may be used. Please note we DO NOT USE STROBE LIGHTING. \nThis is a UV event so the lighting may be darker than usual to accommodate for this. \nDrinks will be available from the bar for both Children and Adults. It is down to the venue to decide if alcohol will be available to adults. \nWe also have a confectionary stand for some sweet tooth during the event. \nSome venues are mostly one level with a couple of steps\, others are upstairs. if you require assistance then please speak to one of our friendly staff that will be happy to help. \nBuggys and prams are permitted inside the venue. Most venues will have storage areas for these\, so if you are not using your push chair you will be able to store it safely within the venue. \nWe can not be held liable for any loss of damage to your possessions whist in the venue. \nYou must be responsible for your own children whist in the venue and remain under supervision at all times. \nBy attending our POPKIDS event you agree for any photos or videos taken during the event to be used by POPKIDS for promotional purpose.\nIf there is any issues with this then please message us directly through our page. \nCAN’T WAIT TO MEET YOU ALL! #Popkids \nAll items listed in our programme are subject to change or can be removed at any time if thay become unavailable on the day.
